Together we will set identifiable and objective goals that we will work slowly to achieve, success will look like you feeling better in months rather than days, but the aim is long term change, not short term crash dieting. I won't make you count calories, but I will encourage you to be accountable to yourself! More about that later, firstly a bit about why I want to help you.
I’ve worked in healthcare since I was 17 years old, I’ve worked in the NHS since 1997. I’ve worked in many roles from health care support worker in long term care for the elderly, via intensive care and accident and emergency, to general practice. It’s been an honour to look after people at their most vulnerable times of their life, from birth to death.
The NHS is an amazing service, run by some of the nicest, cleverest, most hardworking and resourceful people that I’ve ever encountered. However, it has also come with some frustrations about how little resource is pointed towards reversing and managing chronic illness, and educating people to keep healthy. ’There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and stop them falling in’ this is reportedly a quote from Desmond Tutu, and while I am non-religious, I agree with the sentiment when related to the current health crisis in the UK. So while working in the NHS is incredibly rewarding, it also has some frustrations.
The life expectancy in the UK is decreasing currently: I believe some of this is due to poor lifestyle, poor eating and drinking habits, and sedentary lifestyles, none of which we are currently making an inroads to changing nationally. I decided to start North Lakes Health Coaching to see if I could help some people, individually, to change their lives for the better.
So how might health coaching help you? You might have a long term health condition like diabetes or high blood pressure, and wish to avoid it worsening or developing complications, or you might want to live a healthier life through the menopause, or more simply, aging, or you might recognise that your currently lifestyle is likely to lead to physical or mental illness through poor eating or drinking habits or a lack of physical fitness or any combination of the three.
If you are ready to commit to changing your life, health coaching could guide you and provide accountability to increasing the likelihood of successfully maintaining lifestyle changes. My individual unique style is to combined my extensive medical and nursing knowledge and experience, with a compassionate, accountable style to help you change your lifestyle for good.
